Jammu- The Jammu and Kashmir government signed a memorandum of agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to strengthen disaster resilience and preparedness across the Union Territory, officials said.
The collaboration aims to support the Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority in improving preparedness and risk reduction through multi-hazard risk assessments.
It also aims to strengthen disaster management plans at the Union Territory, district and departmental levels, along with capacity building across key sectors, they said.
The agreement was signed on Monday in Jammu by UNDP India’s Deputy Resident Representative Isabelle Tschan and Principal Secretary, Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR), Chandraker Bharti, in the presence of Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo.
The programme will also focus on landslide and seismic risk mitigation, school safety initiatives, and developing project proposals to mobilise disaster risk reduction financing, officials added.
The partnership is part of UNDP’s National Resilience Programme, being implemented across states and Union Territories under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority.
“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a sustained partnership to strengthen institutional capacities, enhance preparedness and build resilient communities across Jammu and Kashmir,” officials said.
