Iran-US Talks End Without Deal After 21 Hours In Islamabad

Srinagar, Apr 12: High-stakes direct talks between the United States and Iran ended without any agreement after nearly 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday.

Addressing reporters after the marathon discussions, Vance said the talks were โ€œsubstantiveโ€ but confirmed that Iran did not accept key American terms, including commitments related to its nuclear programme. He added that the U.S. delegation is now returning without a peace deal.

The negotiations were seen as crucial for the future of the fragile two-week ceasefire and the possible reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil route that handles around 20 percent of world energy supplies. The continued deadlock has raised fresh concerns over regional stability and global oil markets.

Iranian officials, however, indicated that dialogue may continue, saying technical teams from both sides are expected to exchange documents despite unresolved differences.
