Srinagar- The Army on Wednesday retrieved the body of a Pakistani intruder who was killed during a foiled infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s Poonch district, officials said.

The body was recovered from the Krishna Ghati forward area and later handed over to police for legal formalities, they said.

The infiltration attempt was foiled on Tuesday after Army troops detected suspicious movement near the LoC in the Krishna Ghati sector around 4 pm.

According to officials, the movement was noticed nearly 300 metres inside the Indian side of the LoC, prompting troops to engage the infiltrators in a brief gunfight.

Alert troops responded swiftly, preventing any breach of the LoC, the Army said, adding that one intruder was โ€œneutralisedโ€ during the operation.

Officials said the slain intruder is believed to have been part of a Lashkar-e-Taiba group attempting to infiltrate into the Indian side near Bicho Post in the Mankote area of Poonch district.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, officials added.
