Srinagar- The annual Amarnath Yatra will remain temporarily suspended from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes from July 19 due to an adverse weather forecast, authorities said on Saturday.
The decision was taken as a precautionary measure following the India Meteorological Department’s forecast of inclement weather over the next few days to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said no onward movement of pilgrims will be allowed from the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps from July 19.
“In view of the forecast of inclement weather over the next few days and considering the safety and well-being of the pilgrims, Shri Amarnathji Yatra shall remain temporarily suspended from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes with effect from July 19,” Garg said.
He added that the pilgrimage will resume only after a comprehensive assessment of weather conditions and confirmation of the safety of the yatra routes. Fresh updates regarding the resumption will be issued in due course.
More than 3.7 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine since the commencement of the annual pilgrimage this year.
