Srinagar- The University of Kashmir on Sunday joined the nationwide “GenZ Against Addiction – Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” with a pledge-taking ceremony and awareness programme at Gandhi Bhawan here.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan said educational institutions have a key role in spreading awareness against drug abuse and expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” would inspire young people to make the fight against addiction a collective mission.
She urged students to carry the message of a drug-free society to their families and communities and appreciated the Department of Students’ Welfare for organising sustained outreach programmes beyond the university campus.
Participants took the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge and later joined the Prime Minister’s live virtual address, during which Modi described the anti-drug campaign as a “Jan Andolan” and called upon the youth to become ambassadors of a drug-free India.
Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Seema Singh said educational institutions play a crucial role in promoting healthy lifestyles among young people.
The programme was attended by senior university officials, faculty members, NSS volunteers and students from various departments. It concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen awareness against substance abuse and support the vision of a “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat”.
