Srinagar- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to undertake a comprehensive review of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the protection of workers from outside Jammu and Kashmir, besides making insurance coverage and police registration mandatory for migrant labourers.
Chairing a high-level security review meeting, Sinha instructed employers to ensure that all workers from other states and Union Territories are covered by insurance and that their details are registered with the local police and district authorities.
“We must intensify precise, high-impact anti-terror operations to neutralise the terrorists,” the Lieutenant Governor said during the meeting.
He also directed the authorities to ensure dignified last rites for the victims of the Kulgam terror attack and extend all possible assistance to their bereaved families.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary (Home) Chandraker Bharti, Special DG Coordination S.J.M. Gillani, ADGP CID Nitish Kumar, Commissioner/Secretary GAD M. Raju, besides Inspector Generals of Police, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, SSPs and other senior officials.
The participants reviewed the security arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and discussed measures to further strengthen the security grid across Jammu and Kashmir.
The directions came in the wake of Friday’s terror attack at a brick kiln in Kelam village of Kulgam district, in which two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh were killed.
Soon after the attack, Sinha spoke to DGP Nalin Prabhat and other senior security officials, directing security forces to step up operations to track down and eliminate the terrorists responsible.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor condemned the attack as a “cowardly act” and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
“I spoke with the DGP, Shri Nalin Prabhat, and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam. I have directed our security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. The J&K administration and the entire nation stand with them,” he said.
