Mohammad Muqsit Wani walked at the head of the procession on Friday, the National Flag rising above the crowd as students, residents and government officials moved through Khonmoh ahead of Independence Day.
Wani, a Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service officer and Block Development Officer of Khonmoh, led the Tiranga rally with Farooq Khan, an inspector at Police Post Khonmoh.
Officials from several government departments followed as the procession brought together people who rarely appear in the same public gathering: students, social workers, former panchayati raj representatives, government employees and local residents.
The purpose was straightforward. The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign seeks to bring the National Flag into homes and workplaces and turn Independence Day participation into a community activity.
Wani’s presence gave the campaign a local face.
As the administrative officer responsible for the block, he helped bring government departments and residents into the same procession, with young people forming a visible part of the gathering.
Students marched with the flag, joining adults who carried it through the locality. Social workers and former PRI members also took part, giving the rally a broader community presence than a routine government programme.
The procession carried a message that organisers repeatedly returned to: the Tricolour represents India’s unity, diversity and aspirations. The appeal was directed especially toward residents preparing to mark Independence Day on Aug. 15.
Wani and other organisers encouraged people to display the flag at their homes and workplaces, presenting the campaign as a public expression of patriotism rather than a ceremony confined to government offices.
The rally brought young people into the I-Day preparations, with students marching alongside government officials and community representatives. Farooq Khan joined Wani in leading the procession, while officials from several departments took part.
The rally ended with an appeal to residents to make Har Ghar Tiranga a people’s movement and mark Independence Day with pride.
For Wani, the campaign had become a public expression of patriotism in Khonmoh.
