Srinagar- A 14-year-old schoolgirl died while being shifted for medical treatment in Kishtwar district after she was reportedly found pregnant, with police arresting a government school teacher in connection with the case.
According to reports, the minor from the Chatroo area was being taken towards Doda for termination of pregnancy when her condition deteriorated during the journey. She died before reaching the hospital, according to sources.
Police have registered FIR No. 34/2026 at Police Station Chatroo under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused teacher has been identified in the official suspension order as Khalid Hussain Sheikh, Teacher Grade-II at Middle School Bumalpora, Zone Inderwal. The order states that he was in police custody when the suspension was issued.
The Chief Education Officer, Kishtwar, has placed Sheikh under suspension pending an inquiry. The suspension order was issued under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956.
According to the case details cited in the suspension order, Sheikh is facing charges under Sections 61(2), 65(1), 90, 91 and 92 of the BNS, along with Sections 4, 6, 8, 10 and 17 of the POCSO Act.
