Srinagar– Large numbers of devotees thronged the Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar on Friday as Raksha Bandhan was celebrated across Kashmir, with long queues witnessed at the revered hilltop shrine throughout the day.
Devotees waited patiently for their turn to offer prayers and pay obeisance at the temple, which emerged as a major centre of attraction on the occasion.
To facilitate the movement of visitors and manage the heavy rush, authorities put in place special traffic and parking arrangements around the temple.
Srinagar Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mehboob-ul-Haq said the arrangements were functioning smoothly, adding that additional transport facilities had been arranged in coordination with the district administration.
“Traffic arrangements are fine. Here, with the help of the District Administration, we have arranged for RTC vehicles, which are ferrying people from the bottom to the top of Shankaracharya temple and then bringing them back,” he said.
He said free parking facilities had also been made available for visitors. The traffic department, he added, was fully prepared to handle the expected increase in the number of devotees during the day.
The authorities continued to maintain arrangements for the smooth movement and convenience of devotees visiting the temple as celebrations of Raksha Bandhan drew large crowds to the historic shrine. (with KNT inputs)
