Srinagar- Police have registered an FIR against two persons accused of assaulting a Forest Department beat guard while he was performing official duty in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident took place on September 6 during the extraction of departmental firewood from Compartment No. 182/H in Banwat area of Poonch for cremation purposes, according to the Forest Department.
In a communication to the Station House Officer, Police Station Poonch, Forest Range Officer, Haveli, said that two residents of Banwat—Abdul Majid, son of Aziza, and Muhammad Aftab, son of Fazal Hussain—allegedly attacked Beat Guard Poonch, Muhammd Shabir.
The department said the beat guard sustained multiple injuries in the assault, while his uniform was also torn. A video purportedly showing the incident has also surfaced.
According to the communication, other Forest Department officials present at the site attempted to explain the procedure for extraction of departmental firewood, but the accused allegedly attacked the beat guard and other officials on duty.
The Forest Range Officer subsequently sought registration of a case and arrest of the accused under relevant provisions, alleging attempt to murder, assault during official duty, manhandling, misbehaviour and life-threatening conduct.
Acting on the complaint, police registered an FIR against the two accused and initiated further investigation.
