Srinagar- The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Kupwara man accused of cheating people by promising government jobs through forged appointment orders.
According to an EOW spokesperson, the chargesheet was filed before the Court of Forest Magistrate, Srinagar, in FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the IPC against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal, Kalaroos, Kupwara.
The case was registered on the basis of a complaint alleging that Mir had taken lakhs of rupees on the promise of securing a government job for the complainant’s son.
The accused allegedly provided an appointment order purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India. The document was subsequently found to be fake and forged, the spokesperson said.
“During investigation, the allegations were substantiated and the chargesheet was accordingly presented before the competent court for judicial determination,” the spokesperson said.
The EOW said Mir has 15 criminal cases registered against him across the Kashmir Valley. He was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is currently lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar.
According to the agency, Mir allegedly impersonated influential persons and bureaucrats to deceive and cheat people.
The EOW has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report such incidents to SSP EOW Srinagar, Crime Branch J&K. Complaints can also be sent to the official email address provided by the agency.
