SRINAGAR— Hundreds of young students from Foundation World School, Illahi Bagh displayed enthusiasm, endurance and sporting spirit on Saturday as they participated in a cross country run organised at the scenic campus of the University of Kashmir, in an initiative aimed at promoting fitness and holistic development among children.

The event, held for students from UKG to Grade 3, brought together school officials, university dignitaries and local administrators, underscoring growing emphasis on integrating physical education with academic learning in schools across Kashmir.

Students took part energetically in the run, with organisers describing the programme as an effort to instill discipline, teamwork and healthy lifestyle habits among children from an early age. Participants were seen navigating the university grounds amid cheers from teachers and school staff.

Among the dignitaries attending the event were Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar of the University of Kashmir; Prof. Pervez Ahmad; Dr. Shahid Ali Khan; and Mr. Ashiq Hussain.

The school’s leadership team was also present, including Mr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Ms. Zia Nisar, Mr. Faizan-ul-Islam, Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Koul, Mr. Junaid Kochak and Ms. Syed Asma Hamid.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Mr. Faizan-ul-Islam praised the students for their energetic participation and highlighted the importance of sports and outdoor activities in shaping well-rounded personalities.

He also commended the school’s Physical Education Department for organising the event and appreciated the Ideation Team, teachers and support staff for ensuring smooth coordination and execution.

Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal lauded the initiative, saying such programmes help introduce children to the values of fitness, exploration and discipline beyond classroom education.

“We appreciate Foundation World School, Illahi Bagh for taking this meaningful initiative to promote physical fitness and holistic development among its students,” Iqbal said, adding that the University of Kashmir remained a place of “learning, inspiration and discovery” for young learners.

The event concluded with appreciation from guests and organisers, who described the programme as part of the school’s broader commitment to combining academics with co-curricular activities that support students’ physical, emotional and social development.
