New Delhi- The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the Final Location Survey (FLS) for a proposed railway line between Reasi and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

According to an official communication issued by the Railway Board on April 8, approval has been granted to Northern Railway to undertake the survey for the 190-km-long project.

The cost of the survey has been estimated at Rs 26.41 crore, the document said.

The proposed Reasi–Poonch rail link is expected to boost connectivity in the border districts of the Union Territory and improve access to remote areas along the Line of Control (LoC).

Officials said the expenditure for the survey will be met under the head of policy formulation, research and other miscellaneous works of the Railways.

The survey will assess the feasibility and alignment of the proposed line, which is seen as a key step towards expanding rail infrastructure in the region, they added.
