The Bengaluru outlet of one8 Commune has officially ceased operations, sparking widespread discussion after conflicting reports emerged about the reason behind its closure.
Several media reports claimed that the popular restaurant, once associated with Virat Kohli, was shut down due to unpaid rent and financial liabilities reportedly running into crores. According to these reports, the building owner approached the court over pending dues, following which the premises were ordered to remain closed.
However, the brand has now issued a strong clarification, rejecting these claims. In an official statement, one8 Commune stated that the shutdown was due to “specific regulatory and compliance-related requirements” linked to the building. The company emphasized that these compliances were the responsibility of the property owner and were not fulfilled, making it impossible to continue operations.
The statement further underlined that customer and staff safety remains a top priority, adding that the brand does not compromise on safety standards under any circumstances. It also clearly dismissed any link between the closure and financial default, calling such suggestions “incorrect and misleading.”
Reports also indicate that Kohli had already distanced himself from the Bengaluru outlet earlier, following repeated regulatory concerns and notices related to compliance issues.
Located near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the outlet had gained popularity since its launch in 2023 but had reportedly faced ongoing operational and legal challenges over time.
With the latest development, one8 Commune has confirmed that operations at this location will not continue, while reiterating its commitment to maintaining high standards across its other outlets.
