For years, the roads of Srinagar remained crowded with endless traffic jams, illegal parking, and blocked crossings that tested the patience of commuters every day. Today, under the leadership of Bhat Ajaz, the city is witnessing visible changes as traffic management efforts begin transforming the movement of vehicles across Srinagar.
Known for his practical approach, SSP Traffic Srinagar Bhat Ajaz has focused on identifying major bottlenecks responsible for daily congestion in busy markets and main roads. Several choke points that once remained heavily blocked are now being cleared through strict monitoring and better road regulation. Traffic police teams have increased their presence in crowded areas to ensure smoother movement and reduce unnecessary delays.
Among the most appreciated decisions taken by the traffic department was opening Eidgah Ground for vehicle parking during the sacrificial animal market period. The initiative allowed locals to buy sacrificial animals at Eidgah conveniently by parking vehicles inside the ground, helping prevent traffic jams and roadside congestion in nearby areas.
Alongside enforcement measures, the department has continued awareness campaigns across schools, colleges, transport hubs, and marketplaces. Drivers are being educated about road discipline, proper parking, helmet use, and respecting traffic signals. Public awareness messages are also encouraging citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel and follow lane discipline to reduce congestion on busy roads.
Locals say the difference is becoming noticeable across several parts of the city.
“Earlier, traffic jams had become a daily headache for everyone. Sometimes people remained stuck for hours near busy intersections. Now, traffic police are more active and roads are being managed properly. Opening parking areas and removing bottlenecks has helped commuters a lot. People can finally see serious efforts being made to solve Srinagar’s traffic problems,” said Mohammad Yousuf, a trader from downtown Srinagar.
Another resident, Shazia Jan, praised the awareness drives and better road management.
“The administration now looks committed to improving traffic conditions. Awareness programs are teaching people to follow rules and avoid careless parking. Young drivers are also becoming more responsible. We still face traffic pressure during peak hours, but the situation is much better than before. The changes may take time, but the direction is positive,” she said.
Residents believe that while traffic pressure still exists in several busy areas, the continuous efforts to clear bottlenecks, regulate parking, and maintain road discipline are helping improve the overall situation in Srinagar.
From opening bottlenecks and managing parking spaces to spreading awareness among the public, the efforts are helping Srinagar move toward a more organized and smoother traffic system. Citizens now hope these initiatives will continue and further free the city from years of congestion and daily road chaos.
