Srinagar- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday called for positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a premier golfing destination on the global tourism map while chairing the ninth Governing Body meeting of the Royal Springs Golf Course (RSGC) at SKICC.
The meeting reviewed the functioning, finances, infrastructure and future development plans of the prestigious golf course.
Emphasising the potential of golf tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, Omar directed the Royal Springs Golf Course management to formulate a strategy for attracting more national and international tournaments and strengthening promotional efforts to enhance the region’s profile among golfing enthusiasts.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to upgrade infrastructure and amenities at the golf course to make it more attractive for tourists, corporate groups, weekend golfers and recreational visitors.
He also called for adopting best practices in golf course management and ensuring high-quality greens and fairways that match global standards.
During the meeting, the Governing Body discussed a range of proposals aimed at improving facilities and boosting revenue generation. These included restoration and renovation of the golf course through expert consultants, enrolment of new golf-playing members, construction of a boundary wall to prevent intrusion by wild animals, renovation of huts, solarisation of facilities and improvement of club amenities such as the gymnasium, swimming pool and restaurant.
The meeting also reviewed proposals relating to employee welfare, recruitment rules, financial management and institutional strengthening.
Omar directed the Tourism Department and the RSGC management to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for the restoration and modernization of the golf course while preserving its ecological character and internationally recognised standards.
He said all future development initiatives should be guided by environmental sustainability, financial prudence and long-term institutional benefit.
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of employee welfare, skill development and capacity building to ensure professional management and efficient service delivery.
The Governing Body reviewed budget estimates and the action plan for the 2026-27 financial year and discussed measures to improve visitor facilities and create additional opportunities for the growth of golf tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
