Jammu- A woman was severely injured after being attacked by a wild bear in a hamlet in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday, officials said.

The woman, identified as Tazeem Akhtar, was attacked outside her residence in Arai village of Mandi tehsil, they said.

She sustained grievous injuries and was initially taken to the sub-district hospital in Mandi before being referred to the district hospital in Poonch for specialised treatment, they said.

Repeated bear attacks in the area have triggered panic among residents, who have appealed to the wildlife department to immediately capture the wild animals and take preventive measures to avert further incidents.

Officials said the department has been informed about the latest attack.
