Srinagar: As per an official order received by The Freelancer’s, the General Administration Department (GAD) on Monday ordered a significant reshuffle in the higher bureaucracy, effecting transfers and postings of senior JKAS officers with immediate effect.

Issued under Government Order No. 771–JK(GAD) of 2026 dated April 13, the move is aimed at strengthening administrative coordination and enhancing governance efficiency across key departments.

According to the order, Ranjit Singh, JKAS, currently serving as Special Secretary to the Government in the Home Department, has been transferred and posted as Special Secretary in the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat—an assignment considered crucial within the administrative framework.

In a major development, Vaibhav Kohli, JKAS, who was serving as Special Secretary in the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, has been appointed as Excise Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir. He replaces Subash Chander Chhibber, JKAS, who has been directed to await further orders of adjustment in the General Administration Department.

Additionally, Dr. Sunil Sharma, JKAS, holding the post of Additional Secretary to the Government in the Home Department, has been transferred and posted as Additional Secretary in the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.

The order, issued by the Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, has been circulated to all concerned departments for immediate compliance.

Such administrative reshuffles are part of routine governance measures aimed at ensuring effective functioning of departments and optimal utilization of senior officers in key positions across the Union Territory.
